Claire Redfield is a fictional character in Capcom's Resident Evil series. She is the younger sister of Chris Redfield and is first introduced as a college student searching for him during the Raccoon City outbreak.
Claire is usually written as practical, protective and stubborn under pressure. Her stories often place her with vulnerable survivors, especially Sherry Birkin in Resident Evil 2 and Moira Burton in Resident Evil: Revelations 2.
Resident Evil 2
Claire's first appearance is Resident Evil 2. She arrives in Raccoon City looking for Chris and becomes trapped during the outbreak caused by Umbrella's experiments.
Her route introduces Sherry Birkin and shows Claire taking a protective role while trying to escape the city. The 2019 remake kept the same basic role while modernising the presentation and gameplay.
Code: Veronica and Veronica
In Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Claire continues searching for Chris and infiltrates an Umbrella facility in Paris. Capcom's series history describes her being captured and taken to Rockfort Island.
Capcom later announced Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Code: Veronica, with Claire again travelling in search of Chris before being captured.
Revelations 2
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 places Claire with Moira Burton after both are abducted and taken to a remote prison island. The game presents Claire as more experienced than in her earlier appearances.
Her role in this entry links her to TerraSave, a human-rights organisation in the series that supports victims of bioterrorism.
Character Role
Claire is not usually portrayed as a soldier. Compared with characters such as Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine or Leon S. Kennedy, she is more often framed as a civilian survivor who becomes experienced through repeated bioterror incidents.
That distinction is part of her appeal. Claire survives through nerve, improvisation and loyalty rather than through formal military status.
