Common false alarms

RRD is about a pattern of abnormal growth, not one scary colour or one odd-looking shoot.

Normal red growthHealthy new growth can flush red, bronze, or burgundy before leaves harden and turn green.
Herbicide damageWeedkiller drift can narrow leaves, twist growth, stunt shoots, and mimic witches' broom.
Pest or mite injuryThrips, mites, aphids, and other pests can deform soft tips without being RRD.
Stress flushesHeat, drought, transplant shock, pruning, fertiliser burn, and spray burn can make growth look strange.
